Floyd mayweather v Conor McGregor
I've looked back a few pages and could not find another thread....

Ok I must admit I have been completely suckered in by this fight,

Now anyone with half a brain cell realises that Floyd is going to win, but the real question is, will Floyd actually knock him out!?
Now Floyd has not KO’d anyone since Victor Ortiz back in 09, but that was hardly a legitimate KO, so really you’re looking back to the Hatton fight.
Before Floyd moved up to 147, t super feather and junior lightweight he was lethal.
But a combination of hand problems and moving up in weight meant that he relied on his boxing skills to cruise through fights and win on points.
Now Floyd has partitioned the Vegas board of control to fight in 8oz gloves which look like is going to be accepted, so looks like he’s going for the KO
Now there’s a big chance it’s all hype and he cruises to just another points win, but I think he has a bee in his bonnet about McGregor and really wants to spark him out, but like I say I could be getting suckered in by all he hype.
Also the Pauline malliganni spa’ing side issue is pretty fascinating as an aside.
Good undercard as well, with Badoo jack taking on Nathan cleverly and the awesome gevonta tank Davis fighting as well.

Not long now ... 26/8

What, going ten rounds with the best fighter in the world, in his first professional fight? Pretty alright"

Anyone that thinks McGregor did ok, knows shit about boxing.

The amount of people I didn't even know liked boxing using the words "schooled" and "blowing" on Facebook yesterday was mental.

Since when did women become so into boxing/pantomime (answered my own question there..)

Haven't watched it yet and probably won't bother.

However you can bet your life that the "young Irish boy never boxed before and lasted 10 rounds with one of the greatest" line will be used to justify and sell a lot more match-ups between higher level boxers and MMA names.

Probably exactly as it was meant all along. And don't be at all surprised if the people Mayweather was on about wanting to train in his sport in the post match interviews are MMA fighters. The real winners are everyone who will earn millions off the back of this.

You may not like it but it's almost a certainty.

Also said FMJ hadn't sparred properly in weeks coz his hands were so brittle.

Good write up by Steve Bunce in the Indy, says FMJ showed why he's retired. Worst he's seen him fight.

I didn't spend a penny on this WWE pantomime. Those who did were mugged off. The only thing I lost was a few more hours sleep. Well actually I'm usually up to 6am on a sunday anyway.

I think a decent boxer with rudimentary wrestling skills cleans up in MMA.

Mayweathers camp fucking lumped on tenth round stoppage apparently

He could have finished it in any round he chose

I thought McGregor did ok, it was never going to a contest despite all the hype. How could a novice go toe to toe with the best fighter of a generation and future hall of famer.

I do however agree that it should not count of FMJ's record to take him past Rocky. I'd like to see FMJ step in to the Octagon as I doubt he'd last anywhere near 30 minutes for all those saying the difference in class and conditioning. It's like Usian Bolt taking on Mo Farrah in the 5000m and then everyone calling him a useless cunt for not being very good!!!

Re: Floyd mayweather v Conor McGregor
it was the biggest fixed match in sport. Even the 1st 3-4 rounds he never got near Mayweather, just fanned around looking the part. Once the 'fans' had had their moneys worth, Mayweather boxed his head off and that was the end of it.

Any 'normal' fight ref would have docked him points for either the hammer punch, rabbit punching or wrestling and the whole bullshit thing about Mayweather turning his back on him was exactly that - Bullshit.

No doubting the lad's a hard bastard and put him in the cage or the street and he's a right fucking handful, but under strict boxing rules against very conditioned fighters with very, very quick hands and it's no contest.

Just shows how talented and supremely conditioned the top boxers are.

Re: Floyd mayweather v Conor McGregor
I'm amazed he lasted as long as he did. It might have been the Mayweather game plan as he said, but McGregor winning the first two rounds was more than I expected. Yes it was a mismatch, but there are professional boxers who've done worse against Mayweather.
